The head of Gov. Bob Riley’s anti-gambling task force has resigned after winning $2,300 while gambling at a Mississippi casino.

David Barber , commander of the Task Force on Illegal Gambling, tendered his resignation to Riley in a letter which indicates he won $2,300 at a Mississippi casino. Though his winnings were legal, Barber indicated in his letter to Riley that his resignation is because “forces that operate illegal casinos in Alabama will focus on my actions as part of their continuing efforts to smear you and your Task Force.”

According to a news release from Riley’s office, Barber’s resignation is effective upon the appointment of a successor to the position.
