Early Saturday morning, a Mobile woman who troopers said may have been distracted by a cell phone was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 in southern Lowndes County. Smith said 19-year-old Jessica Mary Sylvester died about one mile north of the Fort Deposit exit about 12:45 a.m. Saturday. Smith said she left the southbound lanes, crossed the median in her 2003 Oldsmobile Alero and struck a northbound 18-wheeler driven by Tommy Roberts Jr. of Fairfield. Roberts was not injured, he said. Preliminary investigation indicates the possibility the victim may have been texting or using a cell phone at the time of the accident, Smith said. The crash scene is about 25 miles south of Montgomery and about 140 miles north of Mobile. |
