WKNI is on the scene. We'll update soon.
From what little information WKNI TV 25 News team could gather Officially, Mid afternoon a call went out for a possible suicide attempt was called in from a 3rd party, While the dispatcher was on the phone she heard a "Shotgun" blast and reported that to the responding units. After initial units arrived the individual inside the home refused to come out and was talking on the phone with a 3rd party. It was later reported by a neighbor that he heard several shots from inside the house. IRT team was called in and after what seemed to be surveillance and briefings two teams deployed in full body armor and tactical weapons. WKNI TV 25 was able to monitor the teams command as they were given orders to deploy Gas and to not use leathle force unless needed. The command directed the team to deploy several more rounds of gas into the house and after 15 miniutes or so the suspect came out with a Cell Phone in his hand. No other information from Andalusia Police Department was made available to WKNI TV 25. Chief Williams was unavailable to comment according to the Dispacther at the police department.
(Side note)It is our policy to not respond to suicide attempts or calls. However with as many as two dozen police officers responding and several residential blocks blocked off, It was our thought to respond and report what was happening as responsible media should. The lack of OPEN communications between Andalusia Police Department continues to widen and leaves one to wonder why. We hope the best for the man that was involved in this and hope that he gets the help he needs.
