On 06/24/2012 a subject who identified himself as Lajon Pate 19 of Georgiana,Alabama
was arrested by Opp Police Officers for minor consuming and placed in the Opp City
Jail. Pate had been unable to post bail. On 06/26/2012 Pate requested to see a doctor
reference a medical issue. Pate was transported to the Opp Mizell Memorial Hospital
Emergency Room for treatment by an Officer. Pate was seen by a Physician and written
prescriptions for his medical issue. The Officer who had accompanied Pate stepped out
of the presence of Pate to speak with the Physician about the prescriptions. Pate then
fled the hospital; Pate was in handcuffs at the time of his escape. Pate was later
apprehended at the dead end of Brantley Street lying in a creek. Pate was still in
handcuffs at the time of his apprehension.
After Pate was apprehended it was learn that his real name is Jermaine Pate 26 of
Georgiana, Alabama. Pate was wanted in Butler County for Parole Violation. Pate is
now charged with Escape 3rd and Use of False Identity to Obstruct Justice, both of wich
are Class C Felonies. A "Hold"will be placed on Jermaine Pate for Butler County. Bond
has not been set as of this time for the two additional charges Pate is now facing. Pate
will be transported to the Covington County Jail in Andalusia, Alabama.
The Opp Police Department would like to thank the Andalusia Police Department,
Covington County Sheriff's Department,22nd Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force, Alabama
Department of Public Safety,Alabama Beverage Control,and the Walton County
Corrections Institute K9 tracking team from DeFuniak Springs, Fl. for their assistance in
the apprehension of Pate.
