At approximately 12:14 a.m. today, an Alabama state trooper's 2007 Ford Crown Victoria patrol car was struck while the trooper was outside of the vehicle investigating a traffic crash. The trooper car was parked on the northbound shoulder of Interstate 65 with its emergency lights activated. The crash involved a fire; therefore, fire department vehicles were parked ahead of the trooper car with their lights flashing and orange traffic cones placed on the road around them. Willie Ball of Montgomery struck the rear of the parked trooper car with the 1998 Ford Explorer that he was driving. Troopers determined that Ball was driving under the influence of alcohol and arrested him. Before being transported to the Montgomery County Jail, Ball was transported to Baptist Medical Center South for treatment of minor injuries he received in the crash. While at the hospital, Ball submitted to a blood sample, but results are not available at this time. Neither the trooper nor any of the emergency personnel at the scene was injured in the crash. No further information is available.
