MONTGOMERY, Alabama --- A bill to allow people to carry a loaded pistol in their vehicles without getting a concealed carry permit from their county sheriff is apparently dead.

The Alabama House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee failed to approve the bill after a public hearing today.

APD Relay for Life Arrest A Friend

Written by Staff

Sixth Annual APD Relay for Life Arrest A Friend: April 3, 2014 from 9-4 on Court Square! You can sign warrants on Tuesday or Wednesday before the event at the police department or on Court Square on the day of the event. $2 to sign a warrant, $10 minimum bond, $100 maximum (with exceptions). Please help us raise money for the Covington County Relay for Life! You can sign warrants on your friends, family, and coworkers! Mug shots will also be available for purchase.

New to this year’s Arrest-A-Friend we have added a group of “APD’s Most Wanted” these individuals are being served with their warrants for arrest before the day’s activities. This will allow for the individuals to raise money for their bond amounts and turn it in from the time they are served until 2:00 pm on April 3rd and they can avoid being arrested.  We will release a list of the individuals who are participating in the “Most Wanted” on the day of the event and enlist the help of the public to help us capture those who are fleeing from their warrants.

The Arrest-A-Friend fundraiser has been the largest generator of monies of any one day fundraiser for the past six years. The goal for this year’s event is $10,000 and we hope to exceed that amount with the help of the community.

We ask for all the support we can get.  This is an opportunity to help a family member, friend, or someone in need.  We never know when we may need the help that this money is raised for, stated Chief Paul Hudson.

MONTGOMERY, Alabama — Alabama can't execute death row inmates because the state has run out of the critical first drug given at the start of each lethal injection, authorities said Tuesday.
