Man convicted in the 1974 bludgeoning death of a University of Alabama at Huntsville student denied parole for 13th time
MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- The man convicted in the brutal 1974 killing of a Huntsville college freshman will remain in prison for at least another five years.
Jacinto Rodriquez’s parole was denied for a 13th time in an Alabama Parole Board hearing this morning.
Rodriguez is serving a life sentence for the 1974 murder of Kelly Zettle, who was an 18-year-old freshman music student at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He was also convicted of the attempted murder and rape of Zettle's roommate, Bobbi Ann Ostrander. Rodriguez was last denied parole in 2007 and will be back up for parole again in 2018.
Rodriguez, now 75, was sentenced to life in prison at a time when Alabama had outlawed the death penalty and the sentence of life without the possibility of parole.
Jackson Co. Arrest one on Trafficking in Hydrocodone
On Tuesday
the 18th of June at approximately 0720 hours, the Jackson County
Sheriff’s Department received a call in reference to a reckless driver on I-10.
The information was provided that the vehicle was a black Infinity westbound
from the area of the 160 mile marker.
Upon the
deputy responding to I-10 in the area of the 142 mile marker, he observed the
vehicle and began to follow for observation purposes. The vehicle was observed
swerving in and out of its lane and was unable to maintain a single lane.
A traffic stop
was performed on the vehicle at approximately 0737 hours in the area of the 136
mile marker and contact was made with the driver. The driver appeared to be
under the influence of an unknown controlled substance.
A consensual
search of the vehicle was performed at which time the deputy did locate a pill
bottle that contained numerous marked and unmarked pills. The deputy was able
to determine that the bottle contained 14 Hyrdocodone pills that the driver did
not have a prescription for.
The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Jackson County Jail for this incident.
Arrested: Justin D. Sweetman 37 years old
Wesley Chapel, Florida
Charge: Trafficking in Hydrocodone
Excellent job Teachers and Staff!
This is the Not so Nice List to be on and Covington and the City Schools within have missed this list! Great Job Teachers!
Seventy-eight Alabama schools from both urban and rural areas are on the state's list of schools that are failing under a new law.
The list released Tuesday includes many schools from the state's Black Belt region and city or county systems around Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile and Montgomery.
Parents who want to remove their children from the schools and send them to better ones can receive tax credits under the Alabama Accountability Act, passed by the state's Republican-controlled Legislature this year.
